AFEE is dedicated to improving the lives and increasing the amount of opportunities available to women in Senegal. Here are just a few of the programs AFEE is currently running.
L’Unite de Transformation de Fruits et Legumes (UTFL):
This project involves the training of 30 women over 5 days in techniques of transforming fruit into different sorts of products like juice, jam, jelly and dried fruits. These new products are then sold in large towns, hotels and tourist sites. This program increases the revenue stream of local women.
This project was funded by Cayla Suisse.
Centre d’Education a la Vie Familiale (EVF)
This centre was opened for young girls aged 12-20 who have not had the chance to go to school. EVF offers young women professional apprenticeships in couture, embroidery, dying, cooking, IT, and French. In 2012 EVF taught 17 students.
The centre was opened in Pikine with the help of the British Embassy.

AFEE is also involved in various micro-finance projects in order to provide women with access to credit for their entrepreneurial activities.
The Credit campaign:
2,400,000 F CFA was distributed to 14 groups of women who are members of Reseau “Mbokatoor Ndef Doole”. Credit is granted during the dry season and reimbursement is due after the sale of the harvest with a 15% pa interest rate.
Group credit:
1,060,000 F CFA was granted to 4 groups of women in urban and peri-urban areas in 2012.
Individual credit:
This is generally given to women who have stood out in the group for their good capacity to reimburse. Individual credit is given to them to help them enlarge specific activities. AFEE gave 1,000,000 F CFA in 2012.
Savings:
It is mandatory for those in the micro-finance schemes to have savings in order to provide a safety net for the future. Savings are paid in when reimbursement happens.

Grain banks:
AFEE has helped to construct 22 grain banks across their impact zones. AFEE provides 1 tonne of mil (a grain) to each bank for villagers to share during the dry season. After the harvest, villagers return the tonne of grain with extra for interest. After three years, each grain bank is able to repay AFEE its initial investment of 1 tonne of mil. AFEE is now also building secure places to store the grain. Out of the 22 grain banks, 14 now have a secure structure to store the grain in.

Good Governance:
In Fatick, AFEE set up a group called “Mbokatoor ndef doole” (l’union fait la force) made up of 20 villages. They are led by a team chosen by the members. These team leaders, the chiefs of the villages an their assistants are given more understanding of:
· The workings of local structures
· Values (dignity, ethics)
· Democracy (the ability to express yourself freely)
· Transparency (and the absence of corruption)
· Rights and duties (payment of rural taxes, the importance of having women representatives, the importance of registering to vote)
In total, AFEE’s activities have benefited more than 530 women.
